Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required and for Research submissions it must include any policy-related issues, competing interests, confirmation of all authors’ approval and exclusive submission, and the names of at least eight potential reviewers without conflicts of interest. The cover letter must include policy-related issues, a declaration of any potential competing interests, confirmation that all authors approved submission, confirmation that the manuscript is not published or under consideration elsewhere, and at least eight potential reviewer names with no conflicts of interest.
Abstract An abstract is required for Research manuscripts. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The manuscript must include Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and a Declarations section with all required subheadings. Research manuscripts must include three to ten keywords, include all required Declarations subheadings even if marked 'Not applicable', and document any use of a Large Language Model in the Methods section or another suitable section if Methods is unavailable.
References References must follow Vancouver style. Only published or in-press articles, clinical trial registration records, and abstracts or items available on public e-print or preprint servers may be cited, unpublished abstracts/data and personal communications must be excluded from the reference list, and web links or URLs must be numbered and included in the reference list.
Figures & Tables Figure titles and legends must appear in the main manuscript, large tables may be placed at the end of the manuscript, overly wide tables may be uploaded as additional files, and tables must not be embedded as figures or spreadsheet files. Figures must be numbered in first-citation order and submitted as single composite files for multi-panel figures, and if cropped gels or blots appear in the main text the cropping must be evident in the legend with corresponding uncropped full-length versions included in the supplementary files.

Review articles must include a Background section, a Main text section, a Conclusions section, and a Declarations section with the specified subsection headings. Review articles must include three to ten keywords and a Declarations section containing the subheadings Ethics approval and consent to participate, Consent for publication, Availability of data and materials, Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and Authors' information, with any irrelevant subsection labeled 'Not applicable'.
References Review articles should include 60 references. References must follow Vancouver style. Only articles, clinical trial registration records, and abstracts that are published, in press, or publicly available as e-prints or preprints may be cited; unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not appear in the reference list; journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE; and web links or URLs must be numbered and included in the reference list in full with title, URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Figure titles and legends must be provided in the main manuscript, tables larger than one page may be placed at the end of the manuscript, tables too wide for a page may be uploaded as additional files, and tables must not be embedded as figures or spreadsheet files. Figures must be numbered in the order first mentioned and multi-panel figures submitted as a single composite file, while tables must be numbered and cited in sequence using Arabic numerals.

References Correspondence must contain no more than 10 references. References must follow the Vancouver reference style. Web links and URLs must be assigned a reference number and included in the reference list rather than in the text.
Figures & Tables Correspondence must contain no more than one display item, including boxes, tables, or figures. Figure titles and legends must be provided in the main manuscript, while corresponding uncropped full-length gels and blots must be included in the supplementary files. Any blot cropping must be clearly evident and mentioned in the figure legend, and uncropped images must show the crop locations, be labelled as in the main text, and be placed in a single supplementary figure.

Manuscript must include a title page with full author names and institutional addresses, identify the corresponding author, present a title including the study design where appropriate, and include a Declarations heading containing Availability of data and materials, Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and any non-relevant declarations marked 'Not applicable'. Manuscript must include three to ten keywords, a list of abbreviations if abbreviations are used, specified author contributions using initials, competing interests identified using authors' initials, and an acknowledgement of any outsourced work or data not collected by the authors.
References References must follow Vancouver style. Only published or in-press articles, clinical trial registration records, abstracts, and public e-prints or preprints may be cited; unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not appear in the reference list; web links must be numbered and listed as full references; and journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE.
