Submission Instructions

Bmc Genomics is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:

Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must explain why the manuscript should be published in BMC Genomics, address any journal policy issues, declare potential competing interests, confirm all authors have approved the manuscript, confirm the work has not been published or submitted elsewhere, and refer to a specific special issue name if applicable.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the headings Background, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The manuscript must include a Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions structure. The manuscript must include three to ten keywords and a Declarations section with Ethics approval and consent to participate, Consent for publication, Availability of data and materials, Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, and Acknowledgements, and any use of a large language model must be documented.
References References must follow Vancouver style. References must be numbered in the text, use Index Medicus/MEDLINE journal abbreviations, and include only published, in-press, or publicly available preprint or e-print sources.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables may be embedded or uploaded separately according to the submission context, but tables larger than one page may be placed at the end of the document and figures must be uploaded in the order first mentioned. Figures and tables must be numbered and cited in sequence; cropped gels or blots must have clearly evident cropping; and figures and tables must observe the stated title, legend, and formatting limits.

Review

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. It must explain why the manuscript should be published in BMC Genomics, disclose any issues relating to journal policies, declare potential competing interests, confirm all authors have approved submission, confirm the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere, and refer to the special issue by name if applicable.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include background, main body, and a short conclusion.
Manuscript Review manuscripts must include a Declarations section. Review manuscripts must include three to ten keywords, and if abbreviations are used in the text, a list of abbreviations must be provided.
References References must follow Vancouver reference style. References should be numbered in order of appearance, cited using Index Medicus/MEDLINE journal abbreviations, and data citations should include a persistent identifier such as a DOI.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables are generally uploaded separately or placed in the manuscript according to their size, while figures must be uploaded in the order first mentioned in the text and tables may be placed in the manuscript or at the end of the document. Figures and tables must be numbered in sequence, titles and legends must be concise, figures and tables must meet the specified citation and legend requirements, and tables must not use color or shading.

Database Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. It must explain why the manuscript should be published in BMC Genomics, disclose any journal policy issues and potential competing interests, confirm that all authors approved the submission, confirm that the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere, and name any special issue if applicable.
Abstract An abstract is required. It must not exceed 350 words. It must be structured. It must include background, main body, and a short conclusion.
Manuscript It must include Background, Construction and content, Utility and discussion, and Conclusions sections, and also include a Declarations section. It must include three to ten keywords, an Availability of data and materials section, a Competing interests section, an Acknowledgements section, an Authors' contributions section, and documented use of any large language model if applicable.
References Vancouver style. References must be numbered and all publicly available data supporting conclusions must be cited in the manuscript with persistent identifiers where applicable.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables may be included in the manuscript or uploaded separately as required by their type, and databases should be described with any relevant supporting tables or figures as needed. No specific figure or table count limit is stated, and the source only provides article-type-specific content requirements for the database description rather than formatting constraints.
