Research Article

Cover Letter Cover letter is required. Cover letter must explain why the manuscript should be published in BMC Psychiatry, address any issues relating to journal policies, declare any potential competing interests, confirm all authors approved submission, and confirm the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 350 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must include the headings Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Trial registration.
Manuscript Manuscript must include a title page, abstract, Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and a Declarations section with all required subheadings. Manuscript must include three to ten keywords, an Availability of data and materials statement, a Competing interests section, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and documentation of any large language model use in the Methods section or a suitable alternative part of the manuscript.
References References must follow Vancouver reference style. Web links and URLs must be cited with a reference number and included in the reference list in full with the site title, URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript, longer tables may be placed at the end, figure titles and legends must be included in the main manuscript, and figures must be uploaded separately. If cropped gels or blots are included, the cropping must be clearly evident and mentioned in the figure legend, with corresponding uncropped full-length images provided together in a single supplementary figure and identified in the legend.

Manuscript Review articles must include a Background section, a Main text section, a Conclusions section, and a Declarations section with the required subheadings. Review articles must include three to ten keywords, define abbreviations at first use and provide a list of abbreviations if used, include all required Declarations subheadings with 'Not applicable' where a section is irrelevant, and document any use of a large language model in a suitable manuscript section.
References References must follow the Vancouver reference style. Only published articles, clinical trial registration records, and publicly available abstracts or preprints may be cited, unpublished abstracts or personal communications must not appear in the reference list, journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE, and URLs must be numbered and listed in full in the references with title, URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Figure titles and legends must be provided in the main manuscript rather than in the graphic file, tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript, and longer tables may be placed at the end with their intended location indicated in the text. Previously published figures or tables in non-research articles require permission confirmation and citation of the original article, figures must be uploaded separately as ordered composite files where applicable, and tables must be created with the word processor's table function rather than embedded as figures or spreadsheet files.
