Disability and Health Journal is the official journal of the American Association on Health and Disability. It is a scientific, scholarly, multidisciplinary journal that publishes original contributions advancing knowledge in disability and health, including global health, quality of life, health conditions related to disability, empirical research, evidence-based reviews, theoretical interpretations, interventions, technologies, programs, and policy issues affecting health and quality of life for persons with disabilities.

Original Research

Abstract A structured abstract is required for Original Research. Abstract must be 250 words or fewer. Abstract must be structured.

Manuscript Main text is limited to 4,000 words excluding the abstract, acknowledgments, figure legends, tables, references, and ancillary online-only material. Manuscript must be divided into clearly defined sections using headings. The manuscript must include 1 to 7 keywords in English, complete declarations including a competing interests declaration and funding disclosure, and any use of generative AI in manuscript preparation must be declared in a section placed before the references list.

References References are limited to no more than 40 unless waived by the Editors.

Figures & Tables A maximum of 6 tables and/or figures is permitted. Figures must be supplied as separate files, while tables must be submitted as editable text. Tables and figures should be self-explanatory and all must be cited in the manuscript text with captions.

Manuscript Text must not exceed 5,000 words excluding the abstract, acknowledgments, figure legends, tables, references, and ancillary online-only material. Manuscript must use clearly defined headings and include review aims, justification for the chosen review type, the review type and protocol, systematized search and selection methods with at least two independent reviewers and consensus planning, appraisal methods, synthesis or thematic analysis methods, narrative results tied to the aims or defined concepts, a discussion addressing evidence quality and limitations, and carefully derived conclusions. Manuscript must include a title reflecting the review type, a declaration of any generative AI use in a new section before the references, and a table of selected reviewed articles with extracted data.

References References requirements are not specified.

Figures & Tables No more than 6 tables and/or figures are permitted in total. Figures must be uploaded as separate files and tables must be submitted as editable text. Evidence-based review articles must include a flowchart of the search and selection process, and tables or graphs should portray unifying concepts and underlying frameworks.

The manuscript must include 1 to 7 English keywords, complete the declarations tool with the resulting competing interests document uploaded, and include any generative AI use declaration in a new section before the references list.

References Every reference cited in the text must appear in the reference list and every reference in the reference list must be cited in the text.

Figures & Tables Brief Reports may include a maximum of 3 tables and/or figures in total. Figures must be supplied as separate files, while tables must be submitted as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered in order of appearance, and accompanied by captions.
