Health and Quality of Life Outcomes is an open access, peer-reviewed journal considering original manuscripts on Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL). Articles focus specifically on the assessment of medical and psychosocial interventions, including psychometrics, PROMs, cultural validation and impacts of interventions. Original research, study protocols and systematic reviews feature prominently. Comments and Correspondence are also welcome.

Health and Quality of Life Outcomes is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:

Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must explain why the manuscript should be published, explain any issues relating to journal policies, declare any potential competing interests, confirm all authors approved the submission, and confirm the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 350 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must include the headings Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Trial registration.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 3,500 words. Manuscript must include the section headings Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, List of abbreviations, Declarations, Footnotes, and References. Manuscript must include three to ten keywords and a Declarations section, with any non-relevant Declarations subsection retained and labeled 'Not applicable'.
References References must follow Vancouver reference style. Web links and URLs must be assigned a reference number and included in the reference list rather than in the text, unpublished abstracts unpublished data and personal communications must be excluded from the reference list, and journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE.
Figures & Tables Tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript, tables longer than one page may be placed at the end of the document, figure titles and legends must appear in the main manuscript, and figures must be uploaded separately in the order first cited. Multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, and tables must not be embedded as figures or spreadsheet files.

Manuscript Main text should contain the body of the article, may be broken into subsections with short informative headings, and must include a conclusions section and a 'Declarations' section containing Ethics approval and consent to participate, Consent for publication, Availability of data and materials, Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and optional Authors' information. Review manuscripts must include three to ten keywords, provide a list of abbreviations if abbreviations are used, and include all Declarations subsections with 'Not applicable' where a subsection is not relevant.
References References must follow the Vancouver reference style. Only published or in-press articles, clinical trial registration records, abstracts, and public preprints may be cited; unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not appear in the reference list; journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE; and web links must be numbered references given in full with site title, URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Tables shorter than one page may be placed in the manuscript, tables longer than one page may be placed at the end of the document with callouts in the text, figure titles and legends must appear in the main manuscript, and figures must be uploaded separately in the order cited. Figures must be numbered in citation order and multi-panel figures submitted as single composite files, while tables must be numbered and cited in sequence and created using the word processor's table function rather than embedded as figures.

Brief Report

Abstract An abstract is required for Brief Reports. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the headings Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Trial registration.

The manuscript must include three to ten keywords, a Declarations section with the specified subheadings using 'Not applicable' where relevant, a list of abbreviations if abbreviations are used, and documentation of any Large Language Model use in the Methods section or another suitable section.
References References must use Vancouver style. Only published, in-press, or publicly available articles, clinical trial registration records, and abstracts may be cited, unpublished abstracts/data and personal communications must not appear in the reference list, journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE, and all URLs must be numbered and included in the reference list in full with site title, URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript, tables longer than one page may be placed at the end of the text file, and figure titles and legends must appear in the main manuscript rather than in the graphic files. Figures and tables must be numbered in the order cited in the text, multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, tables must not be embedded as figures, and Brief Reports must use footnotes rather than endnotes with table footnotes indicated by superscript lower-case letters or asterisks for significance values.
