International Journal Of Obstetric Anesthesia accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.
Original Research
Cover Letter
A cover letter is required. The cover letter should be short, ideally less than one page, and should not include funding information, author declarations, or suggested or opposed reviewers.
Abstract
A structured abstract is required for Original Research manuscripts. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured.
Manuscript
Original Research manuscripts must not exceed 3000 words. The manuscript should be divided into clearly defined sections using headings. Original Research manuscripts require highlights, and any use of generative AI in manuscript preparation must be declared in a section placed before the references list.
References
Original Research manuscripts may include up to 40 references. References must follow AMA reference style. References in the text must be indicated using superscript Arabic numerals in the order in which they appear, and the reference list must be numbered in that same order.
Figures & Tables
Original Research manuscripts may include a maximum of 6 tables and figures. Figures must be supplied as separate files, while tables must be submitted as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the manuscript text, numbered consecutively according to their appearance, and accompanied by captions.
Review Articles
Cover Letter
A cover letter is required.
Abstract
A structured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured.
Manuscript
Manuscript must not exceed 5000 words. Manuscript should be divided into clearly defined sections using headings. Highlights are required, consisting of 3 to 5 bullet points submitted as a separate editable file, and if generative AI was used in manuscript preparation, a declaration must be included before the references.
References
Review Articles may include up to 80 references. References must follow AMA style. References must be cited with superscript Arabic numerals in the order they appear in the text, and the reference list must be numbered in that same order.

Review Articles may include a maximum of 6 tables and figures. Figures must be supplied as separate files, and tables must be submitted as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the manuscript text, numbered consecutively in order of appearance, and include captions.

Submission must include 1 to 7 keywords, article highlights as a separate editable file containing 3 to 5 bullet points of no more than 85 characters each, and a generative AI declaration before the references if AI tools were used in manuscript preparation.

Full Case Reports
Cover Letter
A cover letter is required.
Abstract
An abstract is required for Full Case Reports. The abstract must be unstructured and must not exceed 150 words. The abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript
Full Case Reports must not exceed 1500 words. Case reports should begin with a Background section, then describe the salient features of the case, and then discuss novel clinical or technical solutions or features and how this adds to prior knowledge. Highlights are required, and Full Case Reports need to have important and novel learning points.
References
Full Case Reports may include up to 25 references. References must follow AMA style. References in the text must be indicated using superscript Arabic numerals in the order in which they appear, and the reference list must be numbered in that same order.
Figures & Tables
Full Case Reports may include a maximum of 2 tables and figures. Figures must be supplied as separate files, and tables must be submitted as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the manuscript text, numbered consecutively, and provided with captions.
Brief Reports
