Plant Foods for Human Nutrition (formerly Qualitas Plantarum) is an international journal presenting reports of original research and critical reviews concerned with the improvement and evaluation of the nutritional quality of plant foods for humans, as influenced by biotechnology, food science and technology, functional, nutraceutical or pharma foods, and other nutrients and non-nutrients inherent in plant foods.

Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must be 150 to 250 words. The abstract is unstructured.
Manuscript Research Articles must not exceed 16 pages. Research Articles should follow the structure Abstract, Introduction, Material and Methods, Results and Discussion, and Conclusions. Research Articles must include a supplementary material section, a disclosure statement, and a data availability statement, and the text must provide 4 to 6 keywords.
References Research Articles may include a maximum of 35 indexed references. Vancouver Citations in the text must be numbered in square brackets, references must be numbered consecutively, and only cited works published or accepted for publication should appear in the reference list.
Figures & Tables Research Articles must include tables and figures. Figures should be submitted within the body of the text. Tables must be numbered with Arabic numerals and cited in consecutive order, and figures and tables must be appropriately captioned and numbered.

Review Articles

Cover Letter The corresponding author must mention any unpublished material and provide transparency on the re-use of material in a cover letter to the Editor.
Abstract required 150 to 250 words.
Manuscript Review Articles may have a maximum of 30 pages. Review Articles should follow the structure: Abstract; Introduction; Text; References. Review Articles should include a statement identifying who had the idea for the article, who performed the literature search and data analysis, and who drafted and/or critically revised the work, and must include a disclosure statement and a statement of responsibility specifying the contribution of every author.
References Review Articles may include a maximum of 80 references. Numbered citations in square brackets. Reference list entries should be numbered consecutively and include only works cited in the text that have been published or accepted for publication.
Figures & Tables Figures should be submitted within the body of the text. Review Articles must include tables and figures, all tables must be numbered using Arabic numerals and cited in consecutive numerical order, each table must have a caption, and figure files should be named with Fig and the figure number.

Manuscript Short Communications must not exceed 4 pages. The manuscript must include 4 to 6 keywords, relevant declarations under the heading "Statements and Declarations," and documentation of any large language model use in the Methods section or another suitable part if no Methods section is available.
References Reference citations must use numbered square brackets in the text. The reference list must include only works cited in the text that have been published or accepted for publication, entries must be numbered consecutively, and DOIs should be given as full DOI links if available.
Figures & Tables Figures should be submitted within the body of the text. Tables must be numbered with Arabic numerals, cited in consecutive order, and include captions and source references for previously published material, while figures must use "Fig"-based filenames, have parts labeled with lowercase letters, and be prepared with the graphics program indicated.
