Research

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted. Cover letter must explain why the manuscript should be published, address any journal policy issues, declare any potential competing interests, confirm all authors approved the submission, confirm the content is not published or under consideration elsewhere, and name the special issue if applicable.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 350 words. Abstract must be unstructured and written as a single paragraph without subheadings.
Manuscript There is no article word limit. Manuscript must include Introduction, Materials and methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and a Declarations section. Manuscript must include three to ten keywords, a list of abbreviations if abbreviations are used, and a Declarations section with the subheadings Ethics approval and consent to participate, Consent for publication, Availability of data and material, Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and Authors' information (optional), using 'Not applicable' where a required subheading is not relevant.
References References must be cited in the text using numbers in square brackets. Reference list must be alphabetized by the first author's surname and numbered consecutively, list up to six authors in full and the first six followed by et al. when there are more than six, include only cited published or accepted works, and use standard journal abbreviations.
Figures & Tables Figure titles and legends must be provided in the main manuscript, tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript, and larger tables may be placed at the end with their locations indicated in the text. Figures must be numbered in order of first mention and uploaded in that order, multipart figures must be submitted as a single composite file, and tables must be numbered and cited in sequence and created using the word processor's table function rather than embedded as figures.

Figures & Tables Tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript, tables longer than one page may be placed at the end of the text file, figure titles and legends must appear in the main manuscript, and figures must be uploaded separately. Letters to the Editor must include three to ten keywords, and the Declarations section must include all required subheadings with 'Not applicable' used for any section that is not relevant.
References Letters to the Editor may include a maximum of ten references. Reference citations must be numbered in square brackets, the reference list must be alphabetized by first-author surname and numbered consecutively, journal names must use standard abbreviations, and references with more than six authors must list the first six followed by et al.
