The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry is a peer-reviewed journal in geriatric psychiatry that publishes articles on the diagnosis and classification of psychiatric disorders of later life, epidemiological and biological correlates of mental health of older adults, and psychopharmacology and other somatic treatments. The journal is published twelve times a year.

Regular Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Regular Research Articles. The abstract must be 250 words or less. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Objectives, Design, Setting, Participants, Intervention (if any), Measurements, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The main body text must contain no more than 3500 words. The manuscript text must be organized under the main headings Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. The manuscript must include a Highlights section, an Author Contributions paragraph, at least three keywords on the title page, a disclosure/conflict of interest section before the references, and a declaration of generative AI use before the references if such tools were used in writing.
References Regular Research Articles may include up to 40 references. References must follow AMA style. References must be cited in the text in order of appearance using numbers in parentheses, and references with more than three authors must list the first three authors followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Each figure and each table must be uploaded in a file separate from the main manuscript file, and figure legends must appear on a separate manuscript page after the references.

Each figure and each table must be uploaded as a separate file from the main manuscript, with figure legends provided on a separate manuscript page after the references. Figures and tables must be cited consecutively in the text and numbered in the order discussed.
