It publishes original research and commentary on the primary and secondary prevention of important clinical, behavioral, and public health issues, including injury and violence, infectious disease, women's health, smoking, sedentary behaviors and physical activity, nutrition, diabetes, obesity, substance use disorders, educational initiatives for health professionals, and health services research pertinent to prevention and public health.

Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Research Articles. Abstract must be 300 words or fewer. Abstract must be structured.
Manuscript Research Articles are limited to 3000 words of text, except randomized controlled trial Research Articles may include up to 4000 words. Manuscript must use AJPM’s required abstract and text headings and be divided into clearly defined sections with headings. Manuscript must include 1 to 7 keywords in English and, if generative AI was used in manuscript preparation, a declaration in a new section before the references list.
References Citations must use superscript Arabic numerals in numerical order. References must be numbered in the order cited in the text and journal names must be abbreviated according to the List of Title Word Abbreviations.
Figures & Tables Research Articles are limited to 4 tables and/or figures. Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while tables are submitted as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered in order of appearance, and accompanied by captions.

Manuscript must include 1 to 7 keywords in English, a declarations section disclosing any generative AI use before the references list, and systematic reviews or meta-analyses must be identified as such in the title.
References References must use numbered superscript citations in order of appearance. Reference list entries must be numbered in order of appearance and journal names must be abbreviated according to the List of Title Word Abbreviations.
Figures & Tables Review Articles may include no more than 4 tables and/or figures. Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while tables summarizing literature used in the systematic review must be included as appendix material. Tables must be editable text with captions and figures must each have a caption and be cited in the text.
