Neuroscience is the official journal of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), founded in 1976 as IBRO’s flagship journal. It publishes peer-reviewed articles on fundamental science, meta-analyses, clinical studies, and reviews focused on the central, peripheral, and enteric nervous systems, spanning molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, behavioural, cognitive, and computational neuroscience.

Research Papers

Cover Letter A cover letter must be uploaded with the submission. Cover letter must briefly explain the conceptual advance and significance to a broad readership and include the statements that the ethical standards statement has been read and followed and that all authors approved the final article.
Abstract A concise, factual abstract is required. Abstract must be a single paragraph of fewer than 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured as a single paragraph.
Manuscript Research Papers should be as concise as possible. Research Papers must be organized into four main sections: Introduction, Experimental Procedures, Results, and Discussion. Manuscript must include mandatory highlights as a separate file with 3 to 5 bullet points, a maximum of 6 keywords after the abstract, a declarations of interest statement after Acknowledgements, a declaration of generative AI use before the References when applicable, and author contribution information at the end of the Acknowledgements section.
References In-text citations and the reference list must use an author-date style. Reference list must be on a separate page at the end in alphabetical order and include authors' names and initials, year, article title, abbreviated journal title, volume, and full first and last page numbers, with more than eight authors shortened after the first eight with 'et al.'.
Figures & Tables Research Papers should use as few high-quality illustrations as necessary to document the findings. Figures and tables in the submission file must be placed next to the relevant text with the caption directly below each figure or table, although tables may alternatively be placed on separate pages at the end. Each figure must be submitted as a separate file and each table must be submitted as editable text rather than as an image.

References References must use an author-date style with first author name and year in text. The reference list must appear on a separate page at the end in alphabetical order and include authors' names and initials, year, article title, abbreviated journal title, volume, and first and last page numbers, listing the first eight authors followed by et al. when there are more than eight authors.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables in the submission file must be placed next to the relevant text, although tables may alternatively be placed on separate pages at the end, and each figure must also be submitted as a separate file.
