Progress in Disaster Science is a gold open access journal focused on integrating research and policy in disaster research. The journal publishes original research papers and invited viewpoint articles on disaster risk reduction, response, emergency management, and recovery, with emphasis on holistic disaster perspectives, Sendai Framework implementation, multi-stakeholder and implementation-oriented research, demand-driven innovation, and nurturing early-career researchers.

Original Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript The manuscript must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections with numbered subsections. Original Research Articles must provide 1 to 6 English keywords, submit 3 to 5 bullet-point highlights as a separate editable file, and include a generative AI disclosure statement if AI tools were used in manuscript preparation.
References Harvard style. Citations in the text must use author name and year, references must be listed alphabetically and then chronologically if needed, and journal names must be abbreviated according to LTWA.
Figures & Tables Figures, tables, and other graphical media must be supplied as separate files along with the manuscript, and tables must be editable text rather than images. Figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered consecutively, include captions, and any artwork captions must explain symbols or abbreviations.

Manuscript Invited Viewpoint articles are generally short papers of approximately 2000-2500 words. The manuscript must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections, and the abstract must not be included within section numbering. One to six English keywords must be provided, the manuscript must include a generative AI declaration if applicable, and at least one figure must be included.
References At least 10% of the references must be selected and annotated as papers of special interest or outstanding interest. Citations must use the author-date system, references must be listed alphabetically and chronologically if needed, and each citation must appear in the reference list and vice versa.
