Abstract An abstract is required for Original Research. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. Reports of randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses must include a structured abstract. Manuscript Original Research articles must not exceed 3000 words, excluding the title page, abstract, tables, figures, and references. The manuscript should include the research type in the title and use the headings Objective, Design, Setting, Patients, Interventions, Main outcome measures, Results, and Conclusions. Original Research articles must include a distinct key messages section after the abstract with 3–5 sentences under the headings 'What is already known on this topic', 'What this study adds', and 'How this study might affect research, practice or policy'.
References Original Research articles may include up to 40 references.
Figures & Tables Original Research articles may include up to 5 tables or illustrations. Tables and figures must be placed at the end of the submission after the references. Illustrations should be used only when data cannot be expressed clearly in any other way.
