Archives of Physiotherapy accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Review

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must be no more than 500 words and include the manuscript title, article type, brief context of the study, key findings and their significance, and how the study advances knowledge or informs current physiotherapy practice.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must include the headings Introduction, Methods, Results and Conclusion.
Manuscript Review manuscripts must not exceed 5000 words excluding figures, tables, and references. Manuscript must be divided into sections appropriate for the content type and reviews must use a structured abstract with Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Manuscript must include key messages on what is already known about the topic and what the study adds, each in no more than 35 words, and must disclose any use of artificial intelligence or LLM tools for writing or editing in the acknowledgments section.
References Reviews must include no more than 70 references. References must follow AMA style. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance using Arabic numerals in parentheses, list all authors when there are six or fewer or the first three followed by et al when there are seven or more, and use Index Medicus/Medline journal abbreviations.
Figures & Tables Reviews must include no more than 8 figures and tables in total. Figures and legends must be included in the manuscript where cited, figures must also be supplied as separate files, and tables must be included in the manuscript file before the references and not submitted separately. Figures must be numbered in citation order and tables must be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals.

Original Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must be no more than 500 words and include the manuscript title, article type, brief context of the study, key findings, their significance, and how the study advances knowledge or informs current physiotherapy practice.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the headings Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript The manuscript must not exceed 4000 words excluding figures, tables, and references. The manuscript must be structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions, with the Introduction clearly stating an objective or hypothesis and subparagraphs in the Methods section where necessary. The manuscript must include key messages on what is already known about the topic and what the study adds, each in no more than 35 words, and must disclose any use of artificial intelligence or LLM tools for writing or editing in the acknowledgments section.
References The manuscript must include no more than 50 references. References must follow AMA style. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance using Arabic numerals in parentheses, list all authors when there are six or fewer and the first three followed by et al when there are seven or more, and use Index Medicus/Medline journal abbreviations.
Figures & Tables The manuscript must include no more than 6 figures and/or tables. Figures and graphs must be embedded in the manuscript where cited, tables must be included in the manuscript file before the references and not submitted separately, and figures must also be supplied as separate files. Tables must be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and each figure and table must include a title and legend.

Case Report

Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must include the headings Introduction, Case description, Interventions and Outcomes, and Conclusion.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 1500 words excluding figures, tables, and references. Manuscript must include the main title, abstract, and keywords and be divided into sections appropriate for the article type, with content structured in Manuscript Text, Figure legends, Tables, and References. Manuscript must include 3 to 6 keywords, and any use of artificial intelligence or LLM tools for writing or editing must be disclosed in the acknowledgments section.
References References must not exceed 40. References must follow AMA style. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance using Arabic numerals in parentheses, list all authors when there are six or fewer and the first three followed by et al when there are seven or more, and abbreviate journal names according to Index Medicus/Medline.
Figures & Tables Case Reports must include no more than 4 figures and tables in total. Figures and graphs must be embedded in the manuscript where cited, figures must also be supplied as separate files, and tables must be included in the manuscript file rather than submitted separately. Figures and tables must be numbered consecutively in order of citation, tables must appear before the references, and figure legends must be included in the manuscript.

Manuscript must be divided into suitable sections and structured in Manuscript Text, Figure legends, Tables, and References. Manuscript must disclose any use of artificial intelligence or LLM tools for writing or editing in the acknowledgments section.

Manuscript Manuscript must be divided as indicated for the content type and structured in Manuscript Text, Figure legends, Tables, and References. The manuscript must include 3 to 6 keywords and an acknowledgment disclosure of any artificial intelligence or LLM writing or editing assistance, including the tool details and how it was used.
References References must follow AMA style. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance, cited with Arabic numerals in parentheses, list all authors when there are six or fewer or the first three followed by et al when there are seven or more, and use Index Medicus/Medline journal abbreviations.

What are the publication costs?

Article processing charges are Euro 1850 (+ VAT as applicable) for Original Research articles, Reviews, Short Reports, Methodology reports, and Viewpoints, and Euro 900 (+ VAT as applicable) for Case reports.
