Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must explain why the manuscript should be published, explain any issues relating to journal policies, declare any potential competing interests, confirm all authors approved submission, and confirm the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 350 words, and any additional non-English abstract must not exceed 350 words. Abstract must be structured, and an additional non-English abstract may be included after the English abstract. Abstract must include the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions, and articles reporting health care interventions on human participants must also include Trial registration.
Manuscript Manuscript must include sections for Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and keywords, with the title page identifying all authors and the corresponding author. Manuscript must include three to ten keywords, a 'Contributions to the literature' section of three to five bullet points totaling no more than 100 words immediately after the abstract, a Declarations section with the specified subheadings including 'Not applicable' where relevant, a list of abbreviations if abbreviations are used, and disclosure of any large language model use in the Methods or another suitable section.
References References must use Vancouver style. Only published or in-press articles, clinical trial registration records, abstracts, and public preprints may be cited; unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not appear in the reference list; journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE; and web references must be numbered and listed in full with site title, full URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript, tables longer than one page must be placed at the end of the document, figure titles and legends must appear in the manuscript rather than in graphic files, and figures must be uploaded separately in the order first cited. Figures must be numbered in citation order and multi-panel figures submitted as a single composite file, while tables must be numbered in sequence, created using the table object, and not embedded as figures or spreadsheet files.

Manuscript must include a three-to-five-bullet 'Contributions to the literature' statement of no more than 100 words in lay language, three to ten keywords, an abbreviations list if abbreviations are used, all required Declarations subheadings with 'Not applicable' where relevant, and documentation of any Large Language Model use in the Methods or a suitable alternative section.
References References must follow Vancouver reference style. Only published or publicly available articles, trial records, and abstracts may be cited; unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not appear in the reference list; journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE; and web references must be numbered and listed in full with site title, full URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript, tables longer than one page must be placed at the end of the document with callouts in the text, figure titles and legends must appear in the main manuscript rather than the image file, and figures must be uploaded separately in citation order. Figures must be numbered in the order first mentioned and multi-panel figures submitted as a single composite file, while tables must be numbered in sequence, created using the table function rather than embedded as figures or spreadsheets, and table footnotes must use superscript lower-case letters or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data.
