Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include the paper title, a brief summary of the main point, a statement that all listed authors have reviewed and agree to the publication ethics policies, all authors’ names, email addresses, and ORCID IDs with one corresponding author identified, and names, affiliations, and email addresses of potential referees.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must include Objective, Impact Statement, Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript Manuscript must be less than 5,000 words excluding the abstract, materials and methods, and references. Manuscript must include separate sections for the introduction, results, discussion, and materials and methods. Manuscript must include 6 to 10 keywords and an acknowledgment section containing competing interests, author contributions, funding sources, and any AI-use disclosure in the acknowledgments.
References Research Articles must include no more than 40 references. References must be cited as numbers in square brackets in consecutive order of first appearance. Reference list must be a single consolidated list that includes all cited items, lists all authors without et al., and includes the article title, journal title, year, and article identifying information such as volume, page range or article number, or DOI.
Figures & Tables Research Articles may include up to nine data elements with a maximum of six figures and three tables. For initial submission, figure files should be incorporated into the main text file if possible, although a single-file submission or separate text, figure, and supplementary files are also permitted. Figures and tables must be cited consecutively in the text, and every table must have a descriptive title.

Review Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include the paper title, a brief summary of the main point, a statement that all authors have reviewed and agree to the publication ethics policies, names, email addresses, and ORCID IDs for all authors with one corresponding author identified, and names, affiliations, and email addresses of potential referees.
Abstract An abstract is required.
Manuscript The manuscript must include an introduction outlining the main theme, brief subheadings, and a section describing important unresolved questions. The manuscript must include 6 to 10 keywords and an acknowledgment section, and any use of AI-assisted technologies in the research, writing, or presentation must be disclosed in the acknowledgments.
References The manuscript may include up to 120 references. References must be cited as numbers in square brackets in order of first appearance, listed as a single consolidated reference list including supplementary-material citations, and include all authors without using et al.
Figures & Tables The manuscript may include up to 10 figures and/or 6 tables, with a maximum of 16 display items. For initial submission, figures should be incorporated into the main text file if possible, although the manuscript may alternatively be uploaded as one text file with separate figure files. Figures and tables must be cited consecutively in the text, every table must have a descriptive title, and figures assembled from multiple images must mark the boundaries between original parts.

Rapid Reports

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include the paper title, a brief summary of the main point, a statement that all authors have reviewed and agree to the publication ethics policies, names email addresses and ORCID IDs for all authors with one corresponding author selected, and names affiliations and email addresses of potential referees.
Abstract A short abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 150 words. A short unstructured abstract is required.
Manuscript Manuscript text must be less than 1,000 words excluding the abstract, materials and methods, and references. Rapid Reports must be divided into an introduction, a combined results and discussion section, and materials and methods. The manuscript must include 6 to 10 keywords, an acknowledgment section with any general acknowledgments and a competing interests statement, and any use of AI-assisted technologies in the research study or manuscript preparation must be disclosed in the acknowledgments.
References Rapid Reports must include 10 references or fewer. Citations must use numbered references in square brackets in order of first appearance. The reference list must be a single consecutively numbered list including all references from the main text and supplementary materials, with all authors listed and no use of et al.
Figures & Tables Rapid Reports may include no more than two data elements in any combination of figures or tables. For initial submission, figures should be incorporated into the main text file if possible, although the manuscript may also be uploaded as one text file plus separate figure files. Figures and tables must be cited consecutively in the order they appear in the text.
