Brain Structure & Function publishes research on brain structure-function relationships, integrating molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, and neuroanatomical studies of behavior and cognition. The journal focuses primarily on the mammalian nervous system, welcomes methodologies including tracing, immunocytochemistry, neuroimaging, genetic methods, neuroinformatics, and related analytical approaches, and publishes full-length papers, short communications, reviews, letters to the editors, and methods papers.

Research Papers

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract must be 150 to 250 words.
Manuscript Research Papers are usually less than 6000 words printed pages. Manuscript must include a data availability statement, a disclosure statement, documentation of any Large Language Model use in the Methods section or a suitable alternative section, 4 to 6 keywords, and a section headed 'Statements and Declarations' or 'Declarations' including funding and competing interests.
References References must be cited in the text by name and year in parentheses. Reference list entries must include only cited published or accepted works, be alphabetized by the last name of the first author, and include full DOI links when available.
Figures & Tables Figures should be submitted within the body of the text, with large figures submitted separately only if file size causes upload problems. Tables and figures must be numbered with Arabic numerals, cited in consecutive numerical order, and accompanied by captions, with figure captions included in the manuscript text file rather than in the figure files.
