Original Articles

Cover Letter The cover letter must include the manuscript category, manuscript title, names and affiliations of all authors, the department where the work was performed, corresponding author contact details, any current author addresses, the total word count, any AI use disclosures, and HGNC approval for any novel transcript.
Abstract Original Articles must include an abstract. The abstract must be 300 words or less. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Aims, Methods and Results, and Conclusion(s).
Manuscript Original Articles must not exceed 9,000 words including the abstract, manuscript text, references, and figure legends. The manuscript must include page numbers and a 100-word Translational Perspective describing the clinical value of the work. Any use of artificial intelligence to generate content or images, write code, process data, or provide translation must be fully explained in a Methods or Acknowledgements section.
References The number of references must not exceed 50. In-text citations must be numerical and superscripted, and all authors must be listed in the references.
Figures & Tables Original Articles can include up to seven figures. Figures may be embedded within the manuscript or provided in separate files at initial submission, and supplementary material files must be uploaded separately. Alt text descriptions must be provided for all images, figures, illustrations, and photographs in the main manuscript file directly under the relevant figure legend.

Fast-Track Original Articles

Cover Letter Cover letter must include the manuscript category, title, all authors' names and affiliations, the department where the work was performed, the corresponding author's full contact details, the manuscript word count, and any use of artificial intelligence.
Abstract Abstract requirements are not specified.
Manuscript Fast-Track Original Articles must follow the same word limit and format as Original Articles. A separate Funding section is required, and if there are more than 10 authors, an author contributions statement must follow the Sources of Funding section. Any use of artificial intelligence to generate content or images, write code, process data, or provide translation must be fully explained in a Methods or Acknowledgements section.
References References must not exceed 50. In-text citations must be numerical and superscripted, and all authors must be listed in the references.
Figures & Tables The journal allows a maximum of seven data figures on seven pages, and Fast-Track Original Articles must not exceed three A4 pages of supplementary data. Figures must be attached as separate files during submission, while tables must be included in the manuscript file. Figure legends must include the number of animals, cells, or observations and the statistical test for each graph, and alt text must be provided under each figure legend in the manuscript.

Reviews

Figures & Tables Reviews can include up to seven figures. At initial submission, figures may be embedded within the manuscript or provided in separate files, and supplementary material files must be uploaded separately. Invited Brief And Full Reviews

Figures & Tables The submission may include a maximum of seven data figures on seven pages, with one additional half-page schematic figure allowed. Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while tables must be included in the manuscript file in an editable format. Figure legends must include the number of animals, cells, or observations and the statistical test for each graph, and alt text must be provided directly under each relevant figure legend in the manuscript.

References Research Letters should include no more than 10 references. In-text citations must be numerical and superscripted, and all authors must be listed in the reference list.
Figures & Tables Research Letters may include 1 figure with up to 6 panels or 1 table. Figures must be attached as separate files during submission, and tables must be included in the manuscript file. Supplementary data is not permitted for Research Letters.
