Heart & Lung: The Journal of Cardiopulmonary and Acute Care is the official publication of the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses and publishes original, peer-reviewed articles that advance the clinical and translational science of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, including care delivered in acute and critical care settings. The journal welcomes submissions focused on improving outcomes for patients with cardiovascular and/or respiratory conditions across the continuum of care, including clinical research, implementation science, quality improvement, and translational studies with clear clinical and translational impact.

Original Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the headings Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The main text must not exceed 4,000 words. The manuscript must be divided into clearly defined sections with the body text using the unnumbered headings Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. The submission must include 1 to 7 keywords and article highlights consisting of 3 to 5 bullet points.
References A maximum of 40 references is allowed. References must follow AMA Manual of Style, 11th Edition. References must be cited in the text as superscript Arabic numerals and listed in numbered order of first appearance.
Figures & Tables Up to 7 tables or figures may be included. Figures must be supplied as separate files and tables must be submitted as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the manuscript text, numbered according to first appearance, and include captions.
