Biological Psychiatry is a peer-reviewed, rapid-publication international journal founded in 1969 and published as an official journal of the Society of Biological Psychiatry. It focuses on original basic, translational, and clinical mechanistic research that advances understanding of psychiatric disorders and their treatment, and also encourages reviews and commentaries on current topics in psychiatric neuroscience and therapeutics.

Archival Reports

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract headings must be Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main body text must not exceed 4000 words. Main text must be organized as Introduction, Methods and Materials, Results, and Discussion. The manuscript must include six keywords on the title page, report demographic characteristics in summarized form in the Results and/or demographic tables, disclose AI use where appropriate, and include a Key Resources Table at first revision plus a 60-100 word nontechnical In This Issue Feature at revised submission.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance, cited in the text with numbers in parentheses, use NLM Catalog journal abbreviations, and list the first six authors followed by et al. when there are more than seven authors.
Figures & Tables For new submissions, tables and figures may be placed within the manuscript body or separately at the end, tables may alternatively be uploaded individually, figure legends must appear in the manuscript file, and each figure must be supplied as an individual file. Tables must be editable and numbered consecutively with a title and brief legend, and figure and table legends must provide a brief title and legend without duplicating information from the text.
