Original Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must indicate why the manuscript is suitable for publication and disclose any writing or editing assistance from a third party or submission by someone not listed as an author.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be a maximum of 300 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript must contain the sections Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion. Manuscript must include 4-6 keywords on the first page and include the sections Research ethics and patient consent, Availability of data and material, Declaration of conflicting interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and Statements and Declarations, using 'Not applicable' under any required heading that does not apply.
References References must be formatted in Council of Science Editors citation-sequence style. Every in-text citation must have a corresponding reference list entry and vice versa, and corresponding citations and references must have identical spelling and year.
Figures & Tables Original Research articles must include at least 5 display items, counting figures and tables together. Tables must be placed at the end of the file, while figures must be uploaded as individual files separate from the main document file. Tables must be numbered in the order cited, and figures must be numbered consecutively and supplied as TIFF, JPEG, or eps files.
