Original Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must indicate why the manuscript is suitable for publication and disclose any writing or editing assistance from a third party or submission by someone not listed as an author.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be a maximum of 300 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript must contain the sections Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion. Manuscript must include 4-6 keywords on the first page and include the sections Research ethics and patient consent, Availability of data and material, Declaration of conflicting interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and Statements and Declarations, using 'Not applicable' under any required heading that does not apply.
References References must be formatted in Council of Science Editors citation-sequence style. Every in-text citation must have a corresponding reference list entry and vice versa, and corresponding citations and references must have identical spelling and year.
Figures & Tables Original Research articles must include at least 5 display items, counting figures and tables together. Tables must be placed at the end of the file, while figures must be uploaded as individual files separate from the main document file. Tables must be numbered in the order cited, and figures must be numbered consecutively and supplied as TIFF, JPEG, or eps files.

Manuscript Review articles may be of any length, including figures (schematics). Review articles must contain the sections Abstract, Introduction, Main Text, and Conclusion. Include 4-6 keywords on the first page and include a section headed 'Statements and Declarations' at the end of the article with each required subheading present and marked 'Not applicable' when irrelevant.
References Citations and references must use Council of Science Editors citation-sequence style. Every in-text citation must have a corresponding reference list entry and vice versa, and corresponding citations and references must have identical spelling and year.
Figures & Tables Tables must be placed at the end of the file, and figures must be uploaded as individual files separate from the main document file. Tables must be numbered in text order, and figures must be numbered consecutively in the order they appear in the text.

References Reference list must include no more than 15 references. References must use Council of Science Editors citation-sequence style. Every in-text citation must have a corresponding reference list entry and vice versa, with identical spelling and year in both places.
Figures & Tables No more than 1 display item is allowed, with additional display items permitted only as online supplemental information. Tables must be placed at the end of the file, while figures must be uploaded as individual files separate from the main document.
