Registered Reports

Cover Letter An initial submission must include a cover letter explaining why the submission is appropriate as a Registered Report and attesting that the required points are addressed, ethics and other necessary approvals are in place, and funding is available to start the research immediately upon approval, and the final submission must include a cover letter certifying that data were collected only after journal approval. The cover letter must explain why the submission is appropriate as a Registered Report, attest that the required points have been addressed, confirm ethics and other necessary approvals and immediate funding, and for the final submission certify that data collection began only after journal approval.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words.
Manuscript Registered Reports are limited to 3000 words of main body text plus figures. The initial submission must include a background section describing the theory under investigation and specific hypotheses, and a proposed method section specifying all independent and dependent variables, statistical power, a clear stopping rule, and planned data analysis procedures including rules for data elimination. The manuscript must include a Declarations section, an Open Practices Statement immediately before the references, a significance statement of fewer than 100 words, a plan for making raw data publicly available, brief reporting of previous related experiments by the authors, and final manuscripts must describe and justify any post-hoc analyses.

The initial cover letter must explain why the submission is appropriate as a Replication and attest that the required points have been addressed, ethics and other necessary approvals are in place, and funding is available to start immediately upon approval, while the final cover letter must certify that data for the registered experiment were collected only after journal approval.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words.
Manuscript The initial submission must include a background section describing the theory under investigation and specific hypotheses, and the completed experiment must be reported as originally approved with any unforeseen methodological or analytical changes clearly noted. The manuscript must include a Declarations section, an Open Practices Statement immediately before the References, a statement of significance of fewer than 100 words, a brief report of previous related experiments by the authors, specification of all independent and dependent variables, statistical power, a clear stopping rule, planned data analysis procedures including data elimination rules, a plan for making raw data publicly available, and justification of all post-hoc analyses.
References Citations must conform to APA style.
Figures & Tables Figures may be embedded in the body of the submitted manuscript. Figures must be designed according to APA style.
