Original Research

Abstract Original Research articles must include a structured abstract. The abstract may be up to 350 words, although alternative formats of less than 250 words or around 400 words are also described. The abstract must be structured. The abstract should use the headings Objective, Design, Setting, Participant, Result, Conclusion, and Trial registration, with trial registration included only for clinical trials.
Manuscript Original Research articles must be up to 5,000 words. Original Research papers should follow the structure title, key point, abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, references, and tables and figures as appropriate. The manuscript should include three key points before the abstract answering Question, Finding, and Meaning, key messages after the abstract under the headings 'What is already known on this topic', 'What this study adds', and 'How this study might affect research, practice or policy', a Patient and Public Involvement statement, a reporting ethic statement section in Methods, and statements of Author contributions, Special Acknowledgement, Funding support, and Declaration of interests between Conclusion and Reference.
References Original Research articles may include up to 50 references. References must follow the Vancouver style. References must be numbered in numerical order, list all authors if there are 3 or fewer, list the first 3 authors followed by 'et al.' if there are more than 3, and use italicized Medline journal abbreviations or the full journal title if not listed in Medline.
Figures & Tables Original Research articles may include a maximum of 8 tables and/or figures. Tables should be placed in the main text where first cited, and figures must be uploaded as separate files with legends at the end of the manuscript. Tables should be in Word format and tables longer than 2 pages will be published as online-only supplementary material.
