Original Research

Abstract Original Research must include a structured abstract. Abstract should be 250–300 words, with up to 400 words allowed for a CONSORT-style or PRISMA-style abstract. Abstract must be structured. For standard original research articles, the abstract must include Objective(s), design, setting, participants, interventions, main outcome measures, results, conclusions, and trial registration.
Manuscript Original Research has no fixed main-text word limit, but authors must provide the main-text word count excluding the abstract, references, tables, boxes, and figures at submission. Original Research must include the sections Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion. Original Research must include up to four keywords, key messages after the abstract under the headings What is already known on this topic, What this study adds, and How this study might affect research, practice or policy, a Patient and public involvement section at the end of the methods, a Data Availability Statement, and a summary box.
References Original Research is limited to 100 references. References must follow BMJ Vancouver style. References must be cited in numerical order in the main text and listed sequentially in the reference list within the main text document.
Figures & Tables Original Research is limited to 5 figures and tables. Tables should be placed in the main text where first cited, while figures must be uploaded as separate files. Figure legends must be provided at the end of the manuscript.
