Human Resources for Health disseminates policy-oriented research on the information, planning, production, management and governance of human resources for health. Published in collaboration with the World Health Organization, the journal has a global perspective spanning low-, middle-, and high-income countries and encourages debate on health sector reforms, health workforce issues, management, performance, and links with health outcomes.

Human Resources For Health is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:

Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must explain why the manuscript should be published in Human Resources for Health, explain any issues relating to journal policies, declare any potential competing interests, confirm all authors approved the submission, confirm the content has not been published or submitted elsewhere, and name the special issue if applicable.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 350 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must include the headings Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Trial registration.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 4,000 words excluding text in tables, figures, and additional files. Manuscript must include Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and a Declarations section with the subheadings Ethics approval and consent to participate, Consent for publication, Availability of data and materials, Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and Authors' information, with 'Not applicable' used where a declarations subsection is not relevant. Manuscript must include three to ten keywords, a list of abbreviations if abbreviations are used, and the required Declarations section.
References References must follow Vancouver style. Only published or in-press articles, clinical trial registration records, abstracts, and public preprints may be cited; unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not appear in the reference list; and web links and URLs must be numbered and included in full in the reference list with site title, URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Figure titles and legends must be provided in the main manuscript while tables shorter than one page may be placed within the manuscript and tables longer than one page may be placed at the end with their intended location indicated in the text. Multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, table titles must appear above tables with legends below, and tables must be created using the word processor's Table object rather than embedded as figures or spreadsheet files.

Manuscript must include three to ten keywords, define abbreviations at first use and provide a list of abbreviations if used, and document any use of a Large Language Model in the Methods section or another suitable section if no Methods section is available.
References References must follow Vancouver style. Only published or in-press articles, clinical trial registration records, abstracts, and public preprints may be cited, unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must be excluded from the reference list, and web links must be cited as numbered references with full site title, URL, and access date.
