Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must explain any issues relating to journal policies, declare any potential competing interests, confirm that all authors approved submission, confirm that the manuscript content has not been published or submitted elsewhere, and name the special issue if applicable.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be 150 to 250 words. Abstract must be structured into four sections. Abstract headings must be Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Manuscript must include a title page and the sections Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and Declarations. Manuscript must include three to ten keywords, a list of abbreviations if abbreviations are used, and under Declarations the sections Ethics approval and consent to participate, Consent for publication, Availability of data and material, Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, and Acknowledgements, with 'Not applicable' used for any irrelevant declaration section.
References References must follow Vancouver style. Web links and URLs must be cited with a reference number and listed in full in the reference list with the site title, full URL, and access date, and journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE.
Figures & Tables Tables must be included in the main manuscript file, while figures must be uploaded as separate files in the order first cited in the text. Figure titles and table titles must not exceed 15 words, figure legends and table legends must not exceed 300 words, multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, and tables must not be submitted as figures or spreadsheet files.

Figures & Tables Figure titles and legends must be provided in the main manuscript rather than in the graphic file, tables must be included in the main manuscript file, tables under one page may appear in place while larger tables may be placed at the end of the document with callouts in the text, and figures must be uploaded as separate files.
