Original Research (Quantitative/ Qualitative)

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted as a separate file. It must state how the article fits the journal’s scope and aims, confirm that all authors meet the authorship criteria, confirm compliance with the author guidelines, confirm that the manuscript has not been submitted elsewhere or previously published in paraphrased form, confirm that the referencing is correct, and state which EQUATOR checklist was used.
Abstract An abstract is required. 240-275 words. The abstract must be structured. Aim, Background/Introduction, Methods, Results or Findings, Discussion, Conclusion, Implications for nursing, and Implications for Nursing Policy and/or Health Policy and/or Social Policy.
Manuscript 4,000-5,500 words including the abstract and reference list. The manuscript should generally include Introduction, Background, Aim of study, Methods, Results or Findings, Discussion, Conclusion and recommendations, and Implications, and the Methods section should include Research Design, Sample and setting, Data collection, Ethical considerations and approval details, and Data analysis and synthesis. It must include a title page, author details only on the title page, keywords, a completed EQUATOR checklist, and a conflict of interest statement.
References No more than 40 references. All citations must be referenced, and the reference list must be on a separate page at the end of the manuscript.
Figures & Tables No more than 3 tables, figures, or illustrations may be included. Tables, figures, charts, and illustrations should be placed at the end of the article on separate pages after the reference list. Tables and figures must be referred to in the text, each table and figure must have a concise heading, figures must have a legend, and tables should use only horizontal lines.

Systematic Literature Reviews

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted as a separate file. It must include the corresponding author's organisation letterhead and details, state how the article fits the journal's scope and aims, confirm all authors meet the title-sheet authorship criteria, confirm adherence to the author guidelines, confirm the manuscript is not submitted elsewhere or a paraphrased version of a published article, and confirm that referenced material has been checked for correct citation.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must be 250-300 words.
Manuscript The manuscript must be 5,000-7,000 words including the abstract and reference list. The review must articulate a clear question, objective, and purpose, and it should include a methodological critique, conclusions, and suggestions for further research.
References No more than 55 references may be included. The review should include references for the selected theoretical framework, method, aims, parameters, inclusion and exclusion criteria, dates of literature, and when the review was undertaken.
Figures & Tables No more than 3 tables, figures, or illustrations may be included. Tables, figures, and charts must be placed at the end of the article on separate pages after the reference list. The review must include a completed PRISMA checklist and flow diagram, and tables and figures should be numbered separately and referred to in the text.

Meta-Analyses

The cover letter must state how the article fits the journal’s scope and aims, confirm all authors meet the authorship criteria, confirm the manuscript follows all author guidelines and has not been submitted elsewhere or is a paraphrased version of a published article, confirm the referencing has been checked, and state which EQUATOR checklist was used.
Abstract An abstract is required. 250-300 words.
Manuscript 5,000-7,000 words including the abstract and reference list. A systematic literature review or meta-analysis must follow a named and cited evidence synthesis method and include the databases searched, keywords used, methodological critique, conclusions, and suggestions for further research. A completed EQUATOR checklist and a completed PRISMA checklist and flow diagram must be included, and the review should articulate its question, objective, purpose, strengths, limitations, applicability, and implications for practice or policy.
References No more than 55 references.
Figures & Tables No more than 3 tables, figures, or illustrations may be included. Tables and figures should be placed at the end of the article, on separate pages after the reference list. Tables should be numbered separately and have concise headings, and figures should have legends and be numbered in sequence.

Abstract An abstract is required. Up to 140 words. Unstructured.
Manuscript 2,000 words including the abstract and reference list. It must include the topic context, circumstances or situation, what happened, and what needs to be done to address the problem or respond. It must be expressed as up to five specific policy messages.
References Up to 10 recent references.
Figures & Tables No more than 3 tables, figures, or illustrations. Tables, figures, charts, and illustrations should be placed on separate pages after the reference list. Figures and tables must be numbered separately, and tables should use only horizontal lines.
