Original Research

Abstract Original Research articles must include a structured abstract. The abstract should be 300 words or fewer. The abstract must be structured. The abstract should include the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Original Research manuscripts are encouraged to be kept to 8,000 words whenever possible. Original Research manuscripts must be assembled in the order Title Page, Abstract, Text (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion), Acknowledgments, Sources of Funding, Disclosures, References, Figure Legends, Tables, and Figures. A graphic abstract is required at revision submission and must be a single figure panel placed after the written abstract in the manuscript PDF.
References References must use a numbered endnote style. References should be cited in numerical order according to first mention in the text, and the reference list must list the first 10 author names followed by “et al.” when applicable.
Figures & Tables Original Research manuscripts are encouraged to be kept to 8 tables/figures whenever possible. Tables and figures may be embedded within the manuscript or submitted as separate files for initial submission. Tables should be provided as editable text rather than images.
