Submission Instructions

Journal of Healthcare Informatics Research accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must explain why the manuscript should be published, address any issues relating to journal policies, declare any potential competing interests, confirm all authors approved the submission, and, if applicable, name the special issue.
Abstract The abstract is required only insofar as clinical trial reports must include trial registration details as the last line of the abstract. For clinical trials, the last line of the abstract must give the trial registration number and registration date, and if retrospectively registered must also state 'retrospectively registered'.
Manuscript The manuscript must include an Availability of Data and Materials section, a Competing Interests section, documentation of any large language model use in the Methods or suitable alternative section, and for manuscripts describing previously unreported software or custom code, access details and repository links in the Availability of Data and Materials section.
References References may include only published, in-press, or publicly available articles, clinical trial registration records, and abstracts; unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must be excluded from the reference list, journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE, and URLs must be cited as numbered references with full site title, URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Figure titles and legends must be provided in the main manuscript while figures are uploaded separately, tables under one page may be placed within the manuscript, and longer tables may be placed at the end of the document with callouts in the text. Multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, figure keys must be incorporated into the graphic rather than the legend, and tables must be created using the word processor's table function rather than embedded as figures or spreadsheet files.

Previously published figures and tables may be included in this non-research article if permission has been obtained where applicable and the original article is cited, and documentary evidence of permission must be available to the editor on request.

Systematic Review

Abstract An abstract is required if a manuscript abstract is included, and registered systematic reviews must place the registration number as the last line of the abstract.
Manuscript Systematic reviews should include in the Methods section a link to an additional file that reproduces all details of the search strategy.
