Original Research

Cover Letter A cover letter from the corresponding author is required. The cover letter must state that all authors have seen and approved the manuscript, include each author's specific contribution if there are more than 10 authors, and disclose any conflicts of interest.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the elements rationale, methods, results, and principal conclusions, with Methods, Results, and Conclusion presented as headings.
Manuscript The manuscript must contain no more than 5,000 words including the title page, abstract, text, disclosure, acknowledgments, key points, references, figure legends, and tables. The manuscript must be organized into Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. The manuscript must include 3 to 5 keywords, a graphical abstract, and one set of 3 key points just before the reference list consisting of QUESTION, PERTINENT FINDINGS, and IMPLICATIONS FOR PATIENT CARE or translational implications.
References The article may include a maximum of 60 references. References must be cited in consecutive numeric order at first mention in the text and designated by reference number in parentheses.
Figures & Tables The article may include a maximum of 7 figures, 14 figure parts in total, no more than 4 parts per figure, and 7 tables. Tables must be placed at the end of the manuscript file rather than submitted separately, and figures must be embedded within the text with legends and also uploaded as separate files. Each table and figure must be cited in consecutive numeric order in the text.
