Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required for Research Articles. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be written as a continuous unstructured paragraph. Abstract must include in order introduction, research question, methods, findings, conclusions, take-home message, and wider context without subheadings or numbered sections.
Manuscript There is no restriction on page length for Research Articles. The usual revised manuscript format is Title, Authors, First author profile, Footnotes, Key points summary, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Additional information section, Authors' Translational Perspective, Tables, Figures, and Abstract figures. Manuscript must include a key points summary immediately before the abstract, at least three keywords, an Additional information section, author contributions, and a Generative AI Statement within the Additional information section where applicable.
References About 50 references should be adequate. References must follow journal style.
Figures & Tables There is no restriction on the number of tables or figures for Research Articles. For initial submission, figures and tables with their legends should preferably be integrated into the text at the appropriate location in a single manuscript file. All tables must be included within the manuscript text file and must not be submitted as figure files.

Manuscript Review articles are usually between 2,000 and 4,000 words, although longer reviews are permitted when justified by the scope of the topic. Reviews should present a clear, easy-to-read narrative with a logical flow from the Introduction to the Discussion and should use subtitles or headlines. Manuscript must include key points summaries immediately before the abstract, an Additional information section, and author biographies limited to 100 words for single-author reviews or 150 words for reviews with two or more authors.
References References should be limited to 50, except in special cases. References must follow journal style, and self-citation should be kept to a minimum.
Figures & Tables An abstract figure must be uploaded as a separate file labelled 'Abstract Figure' no later than the revised manuscript stage. Figures in reviews must not include new or unpublished data, and the abstract figure legend in the main manuscript file must not exceed 150 words.
