Original Articles
Cover Letter
A cover letter must be uploaded with the manuscript. The cover letter must disclose all commercial relationships that might pose a conflict of interest, including detailed information if a possible conflict exists.
Abstract
A structured abstract is required for Original Articles. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background & Aims, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript
Original Articles must not exceed 5,000 words including the title page, abstract, lay summary, and main text, but excluding references, figures, and tables including legends. The manuscript must contain the sections abstract, introduction, methods, results, and conclusions. The main text file must include 3-6 keywords and a lay summary, and Original Articles require a lay summary of two or three sentences in plain English for a non-medical audience at revised submission.
References
Original Articles must include no more than 50 references. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance and cited in the text using Arabic superscript numerals, and references with more than 6 authors must list the first 3 followed by et al.
Figures & Tables
Original Articles must include no more than 8 figures and/or tables, with up to 6 individual panels each. Figures must be supplied as separate files and must not be embedded in the main body text, while the manuscript may otherwise be submitted as a single file including text, figures, and tables or as separate files. Figures and tables must have legends, and figure legends must be listed at the end of the manuscript.
Systematic Reviews

Review Articles

Abstract
An abstract is required for Review Articles. The abstract must be unstructured and no more than 250 words. The abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript
Review Articles have a recommended length of 5,000 words and a maximum of 6,000 words including the title page, abstract, key points, and main text, excluding references, figures, and tables with legends. The manuscript must include the required sections, including abstract, introduction, methods, results, and conclusions. The manuscript must include key points in a boxed format with no more than 5 bullet points and no more than 100 words in total, and it must also include 3-6 keywords.
References
Review Articles should not exceed 150 references. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance, cited in the text with Arabic superscript numerals, and if a reference has more than 6 authors only the first 3 should be listed followed by et al.
Figures & Tables
Figures must be supplied as separate files and must not be embedded in the main body text, while the manuscript file must include tables and figure legends. Figures and tables must have legends.

Research Letters must not exceed 1,500 words. Research Letters must address a recently published paper from the last six months on an urgent or hot topic. The manuscript must include 3–6 keywords and a lay summary or key points.

Research Letters must include no more than 10 references. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance and cited in the text using Arabic superscript numerals, with the first three authors listed followed by et al. when there are more than six authors.
Figures & Tables
Research Letters must include no more than 2 figures or tables. The manuscript may be submitted as a single file including figures and tables or as separate files, but figures must not be embedded in the main body text and must be supplied as separate files. Figures and tables must have legends, and figure legends must be listed at the end of the manuscript.
