Theoretical and Applied Genetics

Theoretical and Applied Genetics is an international journal of plant breeding research that publishes original research and review articles in modern plant genetics, plant genomics, and plant biotechnology. Articles must have a clear genetic component and significant impact on plant breeding. Theoretical work is accepted when combined with new experimental data or when it indicates a relevant application in plant genetics or breeding. Preference is given to work on leading crop plants and innovative approaches.

Submission Instructions

Theoretical and Applied Genetics accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Review Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract must be 150 to 250 words.
Manuscript Review Articles must give an introduction before proceeding to the details, use informative headings for the different parts of the review, and do not need Materials and methods and Results sections. Review Articles must include 4 to 6 keywords, a statement specifying who had the idea for the article, who performed the literature search and data analysis, and who drafted and/or critically revised the work, a disclosure statement, and a section headed 'Statements and Declarations' after the references including Funding and Competing Interests statements.
References References in the text must be cited by name and year in parentheses. The reference list must include only works cited in the text that are published or accepted for publication, be alphabetized by the last name of the first author, include full DOI links where available, and use standard journal abbreviations.
Figures & Tables Figures should be submitted within the body of the text, with large figures submitted separately only if the manuscript file is too large to upload. Tables and figures must be numbered in Arabic numerals and cited in consecutive numerical order, each table must have a caption, and each figure must have a concise caption provided in the manuscript text file rather than in the figure file.
