African Journal of Paediatric Nephrology

African Journal of Paediatric Nephrology is the official journal of the African Paediatric Nephrology Association. It focuses on increasing awareness and knowledge of paediatric nephrology in Africa and beyond, and publishes research articles on renal diseases in children, fluid and electrolyte metabolism, clinical quiz on paediatric nephrology, letters to the editor, and review articles. The journal publishes biannually in English and French using double-blind peer review.

African Journal of Paediatric Nephrology accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Original Scientific Communications

Cover Letter A cover letter signed by all authors is required. Cover letter must include a statement of originality and reflect all authors' agreement with submission.

Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 200 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 4000 words including abstract, acknowledgments, sources of funding, disclosures, references, legends, tables, and figures. Manuscript must be assembled in the order Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion, Acknowledgements, Sources of Funding, Conflict of Interest, References, Tables and Figures. Abstract must be accompanied by four to five keywords.

References References must not exceed 50. References must follow the Vancouver system. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance using superscript Arabic numerals, and journal references must list all authors unless there are more than 6, in which case the first 6 are followed by et al.

Figures & Tables Tables and figures combined must not exceed five. Figure legends must be provided on a separate page and not included in the figure file. Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals in the order cited in the text and must have clear titles.

Review Articles

Cover Letter A covering letter signed by all authors is required. The covering letter must include a statement of originality.

Abstract The abstract must be accompanied by four to five keywords.

Manuscript Review Articles should not exceed 6000 words.

References Review Articles should not exceed 50 references. References must use the Vancouver system. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance using superscript Arabic numerals, with journal titles abbreviated according to Index Medicus and journal article citations listing all authors unless there are more than six, in which case the first six are followed by et al.

Figures & Tables Figure legends must be provided on a separate page and not included in the figure file. Tables and figures must have clear titles and be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals, tables must not contain vertical lines, and footnotes must explain abbreviations.

Case Reports

Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 200 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must be divided into Background, Case-Diagnosis and Treatment, Results and Conclusion.

Manuscript The manuscript must not exceed 1500 words. The manuscript must be assembled in the following order: Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion. The abstract must be accompanied by four to five keywords preferably using terms not in the title.

References References must not exceed 15. References must use the Vancouver system. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance, cited as superscript Arabic numerals after punctuation, use Index Medicus journal abbreviations, and list all authors unless there are more than 6, in which case the first 6 are followed by et al.

Figures & Tables No more than one table or figure is allowed. Figure legends must be provided on a separate page and not included in the figure file. Tables and figures must have clear titles, be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals in the order cited in the text, tables must not contain vertical lines, and footnotes must explain abbreviations.

Letters To The Editor

Cover Letter A covering letter is required. Cover letter must be signed by all authors and include a statement of originality.

Abstract Abstract must not be included.

Manuscript Letters to the Editor must not exceed 250 words. Letters to the Editor should begin with the reason for writing and should refer to a manuscript previously published by the journal within the preceding six months.

References Letters to the Editor must not have more than 4 references. References must follow the Vancouver system. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance using superscript Arabic numerals, with journal titles abbreviated according to Index Medicus and author lists truncated after six authors with et al.

Figures & Tables Letters to the Editor must not include figures or tables.
