Original Investigation

Cover Letter Any overlapping or previously published material must be identified in the cover letter, with copies or links provided.
Abstract A structured abstract is required, with a maximum of 300 words and the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Original Investigation submissions must range in length from 1,500 to 4,000 words.
References Original Investigation articles should be accompanied by no more than 50 references.
Figures & Tables Figures must be uploaded as separate .tif, .eps, .jpg, or .pdf files, each clearly labeled with the figure number, and any special symbols used must be explained in the legend.

Comprehensive Review

Abstract An unstructured abstract is required, with a maximum of 150 words, summarizing key points in one or two paragraphs.
Manuscript Comprehensive Reviews must be 3,000 to 8,000 words in length.
References When a reference has six or fewer authors all should be listed; when there are seven or more authors, list only the first three followed by “et al.”; no maximum reference count is indicated.
Figures & Tables Figures must be submitted as separate, clearly labeled files and cited in the text in consecutive numeric order, with each figure having a legend (preferably grouped on the last manuscript page for review); no maximum number of figures or tables is specified.

Clinical Focus Review

Cover Letter Any overlapping or previously published material must be identified in a cover letter, with copies or links provided.
Abstract Abstracts are not permitted for Clinical Focus Reviews.
Manuscript Clinical Focus Reviews must be 2,000 to 3,000 words in length.
References References must follow the journal’s numbered style using superscripts in order of appearance, Index Medicus journal abbreviations, specific author listing rules (all authors up to six; if seven or more, first three plus “et al.”), include DOIs, and be limited to a maximum of 50 references for Clinical Focus Reviews.
Figures & Tables Figures must be cited in consecutive numeric order, each have a legend (preferably grouped on the last page for review), and be uploaded as separate image files rather than embedded only in the manuscript.

Research Letter

Abstract Research Letters must not include an abstract, brief summary, or key points.
Manuscript Research Letters must be written as an unstructured essay without section headers, may use unlabeled paragraphs for background, methods, results, and discussion, and are limited to 1,000 words of text excluding title, authors, and references.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance using the journal’s specified style with Index Medicus journal abbreviations and DOIs for journal articles when available, and Research Letters may include no more than 10 references.
Figures & Tables Research Letters may include a maximum of 2 total figures and tables, any figures must be single-paneled, tables must be numbered and cited in order with titles and footnotes, figures must be submitted as separate files with legends, and all figures and tables must be cited consecutively in the text.
