Original Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include a statement that all authors have read the manuscript and approve its submission.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 350 words. Abstract must be structured. Preferred abstract headings are Rationale, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions, or for meta-analyses Background, Objective, Data Sources, Data Extraction, Synthesis, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Text must not exceed 3,500 words. Text must use the first-level section headers Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion, and Results and Discussion may not be combined. The manuscript must include 3 to 5 keywords and a statement on the title page declaring whether an AI tool was used and, if so, how it was used.
References References must not exceed 60. References must follow AMA style with a numerical citation system. References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text and listed numerically in the reference list.
Figures & Tables Tables and figures may be included with no limit. Figures and their captions should be embedded in the text in correct numerical order, and at initial submission figures should also be submitted as individual files. Tables must be numbered and cited in chronological order, include a caption or title, and be placed at the end of the main text.

Systematic Review

Cover Letter A cover letter must be included. The cover letter must include a statement that all authors have read the manuscript and approve its submission.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 350 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Text must be 2,000 to 4,000 words. The manuscript title page should include an Author contributions section and a statement declaring whether an AI tool was used and, if so, how it was used.
References References must not exceed 80. References must follow AMA style. References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text and listed numerically in the reference list.
Figures & Tables A maximum of 5 figures, tables, or videos may be included. Figures and their captions should be embedded in the text in the correct numerical order, and figures should also be submitted as individual files at initial submission. All tables must be numbered and cited in chronological order in the text, include a caption or title, and be placed at the end of the main text.

Abstract Abstract requirements are not specified.
Manuscript Case Conferences should use short sentences and short paragraphs, use “man” or “woman” instead of “male” or “female,” and should not specify race or ethnicity. The manuscript title page must include an Author contributions section and a statement declaring whether any AI tool was used and, if so, how it was used.
References References must follow AMA style. References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text and listed numerically in the reference list.
Figures & Tables Case Conferences may include up to 8 images or data summary tables derived from the patient. Figures and their captions should be embedded in the text in numerical order, and figures should also be submitted as individual files at initial submission. Case Conference images must be submitted as uncompressed TIFF files with a minimum resolution of 300 ppi.

Figures must be single-paneled rather than multi-paneled.
