Annual Review of Genetics publishes review articles covering significant developments in genetics, including biochemical, behavioral, cell, and developmental genetics; evolutionary and population genetics; chromosome structure and transmission; gene function and expression; mutation and repair; genomics; immunogenetics; and related genetics of viruses, bacteria, fungi, plants, animals, and humans. The journal has been published since 1967 and is active.

Annual Review of Genetics is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:

Invited Reviews

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract requirements are not specified.
Manuscript Invited Reviews must include an Acknowledgments section for contributors who do not meet authorship criteria and for any AI use, with targeted AI use also disclosed where pertinent in the article such as in a figure caption.
References References in Invited Reviews must exist and support the cited content, source publications should be cited in close proximity to discussion of others’ findings or theories, unpublished non-peer-reviewed material should be avoided when possible and identified as unpublished and not peer reviewed if cited, and direct quotations must include quotation marks and page numbers or be set off as extracts for several consecutive sentences.
Figures & Tables Invited Reviews may include only reused figures for which permission has been obtained, the source of reused material must be credited at the end of the figure caption, grouped images from different sources must be explicitly identified in the figure arrangement and caption, and any nonlinear image adjustments must be disclosed in the caption.
