Research Papers

Cover Letter Manuscripts must include a statement that all authors have approved the current version of the manuscript and approved its submission.
Abstract Research Papers must include an abstract. Abstract must be limited to 200 words.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 63,000 characters including spaces. Manuscript must follow the order Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Results, Discussion, Materials and Methods, Competing Interest Statement, Acknowledgments, Author Contributions, References, Tables, and Figures. Research Papers must include an Author Contributions section as the second paragraph in the Acknowledgments section, and any use of AI tools or large language models to generate article content must be fully documented in the Methods section with the tool or model, version, and how it was used.
References References must use name/date citations in the text. Reference list must be in alphabetical order, include all authors when there are 10 or fewer authors, and list the first 10 authors followed by et al. when there are more than 10 authors.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables must be formatted with the corresponding legend on the same page as the figure or table, with titles and legends placed on the following page if the legend does not fit. Figures and tables must be numbered consecutively in the order cited in the text, and each table must have a title.

Research Communications

References Manuscript must include no more than 40 references. References must use name/date citations in the text. Reference list must be in alphabetical order, list all authors when there are 10 or fewer, and list the first 10 authors followed by et al. when there are more than 10 authors.
Figures & Tables Manuscript must include no more than five figures and/or tables combined. Figures and tables must be formatted with the corresponding legend on the same page as the figure or table, or on the following page if the legend does not fit. Figures and tables must be numbered consecutively in the order cited in the text, and each table must have a title.

Review Articles

Cover Letter A statement that all authors have approved the current version of the manuscript and approved its submission must be included.
Abstract An abstract is required for Review Articles. Abstract must be no longer than 100 words.
Manuscript Review Articles must occupy 5–8 journal pages and contain 30,000–50,000 characters including spaces. Manuscripts must follow the order Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Results, Discussion, Materials and Methods, Competing Interest Statement, Acknowledgments, Author Contributions, References, Tables, and Figures. Manuscripts must include a Competing Interest Statement, and any use of AI tools or large language models to generate article content must be fully documented in the Methods section with the tool or model, version, and how it was used.
