Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology is a purely electronic, gold open-access, peer-reviewed bimonthly journal established in 2012. It publishes high-quality articles in clinical ophthalmology, innovative technology, and visual science for ophthalmologists and visual scientists worldwide. Starting February 1, 2026, the journal transitions from open submission to an invitation-only submission process, while continuing to consider unsolicited pre-submission inquiries accompanied by an extended abstract.

Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:

Original Research Study

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for pre-submission inquiries and the submission cover letter must indicate the manuscript type. The cover note must state the article type and concisely introduce the scientific value and key importance of the manuscript.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must be 250 words or fewer. The abstract must be structured.
Manuscript The manuscript text must be 5000 words or fewer. The main body must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections. The manuscript must include no more than 5 keywords and, if generative AI was used in manuscript preparation, a declaration statement in a new section before the references list.
References The manuscript must include no more than 60 references. References must use AMA 11th edition style. In-text citations must be numbered in square brackets and the reference list must be numbered in the order of first appearance in the text.
Figures & Tables The manuscript must include no more than 8 figures and/or tables. Figures and tables must not be embedded in the manuscript text file and must be uploaded as separate files. Figures and tables must include captions or titles and descriptions and must explain all symbols and abbreviations used.

Review Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for unsolicited pre-submission inquiries and the submission cover letter must indicate the manuscript type. The cover note must state the article type and concisely introduce the scientific value and key importance of the manuscript, and the cover letter must include previous reviews and responses if the paper was previously rejected by another journal.
Abstract An extended abstract is required for unsolicited pre-submission inquiries. The extended abstract must be below 500 words.
Manuscript Review Article manuscripts must have text of 9000 words or fewer. The main body must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections. Review Article manuscripts must include no more than 5 keywords, and if AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, a declaration statement must be added in a new section before the references list.
References Review Article manuscripts must include no more than 150 references. References must use AMA 11th edition style. In-text citations must be indicated by numbers in square brackets and the reference list must be numbered in the order of appearance in the text.
Figures & Tables Review Article manuscripts must include no more than 8 tables and/or figures. Figures and tables must be provided as separate files for individual upload and must not be embedded in the manuscript text file. Figures and tables must include captions or titles and descriptions, explain all symbols and abbreviations used, and a figure captions page must appear after the references.
