Article

Cover Letter A cover letter must be included with each manuscript submission. The cover letter must explain the significance of the paper, explain why it fits the journal scope, acknowledge any prior submission to MDPI journals, and state that the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere and that all authors have approved the manuscript and agree with submission to Bioengineering.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract should be about 200 words maximum. The abstract should be structured without headings and written as a single paragraph.
Manuscript Article manuscripts should follow an IMRAD-style structure with Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions sections, with Conclusions optional. The manuscript should include front matter with Title, Author list, Affiliations, Abstract, and Keywords.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text, listed individually at the end of the manuscript, and include the required bibliographic elements with consistent formatting throughout.
Figures & Tables Figures, schemes, and tables must be inserted into the main text close to their first citation. Figures and tables should be high quality, figures should preferably be no less than 600 dpi, figures should be in PNG, JPEG, or TIFF format, tables must be created using the Table option in Microsoft Word, and figure content should be complete with only English text and correct mathematical symbols.

Review

Scoping Review

Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract should be about 200 words maximum. The abstract should be structured without headings.
Manuscript Scoping Review manuscripts should include the sections Author Information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, Conclusions, Figures and Tables with Captions, Funding Information, Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, and other Ethics Statements. Scoping Review manuscripts should follow the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews checklist and include registration information in the Methods section if available.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text, listed individually at the end of the manuscript, and formatted consistently with author names, title, year, volume and issue where appropriate, and pagination.
Figures & Tables Figures, schemes, and tables must be inserted into the main text close to their first citation. Scoping Review manuscripts should include the PRISMA flow diagram in the main text.

Systematic Review

Manuscript Systematic Review manuscripts should use the same structure as research articles and follow a logical pattern with the usual research-article sections. The manuscript must include Author Information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, Conclusions, Figures and Tables with Captions, Funding Information, Author Contributions, and Conflict of Interest, and it must include an Institutional Review Board Statement and Informed Consent Statement where applicable.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance and listed individually at the end of the manuscript.
Figures & Tables Figures, schemes, and tables must be inserted into the main text close to their first citation. Figures must be high quality and preferably no less than 600 dpi, figures and tables must use English text and correct symbols, table columns must have explanatory headings, and graphical abstracts must be original PNG, JPEG, or TIFF images of at least 560 × 1100 pixels.
