Original Research

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract should be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript must be arranged as title page, text and references, tables, figure legends, and figures, and it must include Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, and a Data Availability subsection at the end of Materials and Methods or Methods. The title page must include a running title of no more than 60 characters, the corresponding author’s full contact information, and the manuscript word count plus total number of figures and tables, and Original Research using custom computer code must include a Code Availability Statement explaining access and reuse and any limitations.
References References must be numbered and cited in the text by number in order of first mention. List all authors when there are 6 or fewer, list the first 6 followed by "et al." when there are more than 6, and ensure every reference is cited in the text.
Figures & Tables For initial submission, figures should appear with their legends together either embedded near the callout or on the same page at the end of the manuscript, supplementary files must be uploaded separately, and the manuscript order must place tables before figure legends and figures. Each table must have a descriptive title and each figure must have a legend with a short title sentence and description, with multi-panel figures labeled and described and all figures and tables cited in sequential order.
