Preplanned Studies

Cover Letter Cover letter is required if artificial intelligence-assisted technologies were used. Cover letter must describe any use of artificial intelligence-assisted technologies and assert that there is no plagiarism, including in AI-produced text and images.
Abstract Structured abstract is required. Abstract must be 150–200 words. Abstract must be structured with labeled subheadings. Abstract must include the labeled subheadings Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion and must not contain references or footnotes.
Manuscript Manuscript must be no longer than 1,400 words. Manuscript must include unlabeled Introduction, Methods, and Results sections, only the Discussion section has a heading, a labeled Limitations paragraph as the next-to-last paragraph, and a labeled Implications for Public Health Practice section at the end. Manuscript must include a 75–100 word summary box, state whether any artificial intelligence-assisted technologies were used, and describe any such use in the submitted work.
References Manuscript must include no more than 10 references. References must follow the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals. References must be numbered in text in order of appearance and listed in numeric order in the References section.
Figures & Tables Manuscript must include no more than 3 total tables, figures, and/or boxes. Each table and figure must be submitted as a separate file and must not be embedded in the report text file. Figures must not contain more than four panels.

Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 1,800 words. Manuscript must contain Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections, and the Discussion must include conclusions followed by labeled Limitations and Public Health Implications subsections. Submitted work must state whether artificial intelligence-assisted technologies were used, and any discussion conclusion must include a call to action describing what various audiences can do to address the problem.
References References must not exceed 15. References must follow the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals. References must be numbered in text in order of appearance and listed in numeric order in the References section.
Figures & Tables No more than 4 tables, figures, or boxes may be included, and up to 3 supplementary tables or figures may be included. Each table and figure must be submitted as a separate file and must not be embedded in the report text file. Figures must not contain more than four panels, and pie charts and 3D graphs must not be used.

References References must not exceed 10. References must follow the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals. References must be numbered in text in order of appearance and listed in numeric order in the References section.

Abstract An abstract is required for Reviews. The abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript The manuscript must be less than 1,800 words, excluding title, authors, footnotes, references, figures, tables, boxes, conflicts of interest, funding, ethical statement, acknowledgments, and supplementary materials. The manuscript must state whether any artificial intelligence-assisted technologies were used in the work.
References References must follow the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals. References must be numbered in text in order of appearance and listed in numeric order in the References section.
Figures & Tables Figures must not contain more than four panels, and up to 3 supplementary tables and figures may be submitted. Each table and figure must be submitted as a separate file and must not be embedded in the report text file. Manuscript should use sections for Abstract, an unlabeled Introduction, Methods, Rationale and Evidence, Recommendation or Interim Guidance or another appropriate heading, and Discussion, with content organized using appropriate subheadings and no limitations paragraph. Manuscript must include a Summary Box answering three required questions in no more than 100 words, state whether any artificial intelligence-assisted technologies were used, and may include up to 3 supplementary tables or figures named inline in the text.
References References should be limited to the minimum number necessary to support the recommendation.
