Clinical Medicine

Clinical Medicine is a peer-reviewed journal of the Royal College of Physicians that publishes advances in general and specialist medicine, authoritative reviews, original research, guideline summaries, and clinically focused reviews, with a dedicated CME section and six issues per year. From January 1, 2024, it operates as a full gold open access journal, with accepted articles published online ahead of each issue.

Full Length Articles (Original Research)

Cover Letter A cover letter must be included with the submission. The cover letter must confirm approval for publication by all authors and by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract headings must be Study Objective, Design, Setting, Participants, Interventions, Main Outcome Measure(s), Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main text must be up to 3,000 words excluding tables, figure legends, and references. Manuscript must include, in order, Title Page, Structured Abstract and Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and References. Manuscript must include keywords, mandatory highlights submitted separately as 3 to 5 bullet points, a mandatory graphical abstract submitted separately, an AI disclosure section before the references if generative AI was used in manuscript preparation, and explicit study limitations.
References References are limited to 30. References must follow AMA style. References must be cited by numbers in square brackets and listed in the order of appearance, and AMA references with one to six authors list all authors while those with seven or more list the first three followed by et al.
Figures & Tables A maximum of 4 figures and/or tables is allowed. Figures, tables, and the graphical abstract must be submitted as separate files rather than embedded only in the manuscript. Figures and tables must be numbered in numerical order, all legends or captions must be included in the manuscript, figures require relevant captions, and tables must be editable and include titles, descriptions, and footnotes.

Highlights are mandatory and must be provided as 3 to 5 bullet points in a separate editable file, authors must provide 3 to 8 keywords, and any use of generative AI in manuscript preparation must be disclosed in a section placed before the references.
