Drug Development Research is an interdisciplinary pharmacology journal publishing papers and reviews covering all areas of drug development, including medicinal and process chemistry, biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals, toxicology, drug delivery, formulation, pharmacokinetics, and clinical trial reviews. Since 1981, it has served a diverse research community including pharmacologists, pharmacists, toxicologists, medicinal, pharmaceutical, and organic chemists, chemical and molecular biologists, and specialists in drug evaluation, approval, and regulation.

Submission Instructions

Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must explain why the manuscript is suitable for the journal and give reasons for any checklist items answered “no.”
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be no more than 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 4000 words excluding the abstract and references. Manuscript must follow IMRaD principles with abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections. Manuscript must include between 3 and 7 keywords, with journal-level instructions also stating up to three keywords elsewhere.
References References must not exceed 60. References must be prepared in APA style using author-date in-text citations. The reference list must appear alphabetically at the end of the paper and include DOIs where available, with journal issue numbers omitted unless each issue starts at page 1.
Figures & Tables For initial submission, figures and tables may be included within a single manuscript file or uploaded as separate files. Figures and tables must have legends, and tables must include titles and footnotes.

Review Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for Review Articles. The cover letter must explain why the manuscript is suitable for the journal and include a statement of the authors' expertise and why the review is needed for the community.
Abstract Review Articles must include an abstract. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract should be unstructured.
Manuscript Review Articles must not exceed 7000 words, excluding the abstract and references. The manuscript must include the required sections, including abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion. The main manuscript must include up to three keywords and a word count.
References Review Articles must include no more than 200 references. References must be prepared in APA style using author-date in-text citations. The reference list must appear alphabetically at the end of the paper and include DOIs where available.
Figures & Tables At initial submission, figures and tables may be embedded in the manuscript or uploaded as separate files. Figures and tables must have legends, and tables must include titles and footnotes.

Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 1,500 words excluding the abstract and references. Manuscript should follow IMRaD principles and be written as continuous main text with optional subheadings for Results and Discussion and Conclusions. Manuscript must include up to three keywords and address all applicable points in the Scientific Checklist for Brief Reports and Research Articles.
References Reference list must contain no more than 20 references. References must be prepared in APA style using author-date in-text citations. Reference list must be arranged alphabetically and include DOIs where available.
Figures & Tables At initial submission, figures and tables may be embedded in the manuscript or uploaded as separate files. Tables and figures must have legends, and figure legends must also be provided as a complete list in the text.
