Submission Instructions
European Journal of Clinical Nutrition is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:
Article
Cover Letter
A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include the corresponding author’s affiliation and contact information and briefly explain the importance of the work and its relevance to the journal readership.
Abstract
A structured abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background/Objectives, Subjects/Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript
The main body text must not exceed 3,000 words, excluding the abstract, tables/figures, and references. The manuscript must contain a title page, abstract, Introduction, Materials or Subjects and Methods, Results, Discussion, Data Availability Statement, References, Acknowledgements, Author Contribution Statement, Funding information, Ethical Approval statement, Competing Interests statement, figure legends, tables, and figures. The manuscript must include a Data Availability Statement describing where supporting data can be found, including hyperlinks to publicly archived datasets where applicable, or stating availability conditions when data cannot be shared publicly.
References
The manuscript may include a maximum of 50 references. References must follow the Vancouver format. In-text citations must be numbered consecutively from one and the reference list must be double-spaced in numerical order of citation, listing all authors for up to six authors and the first six followed by et al. for more than six authors.
Figures & Tables
The manuscript may include a maximum of 6 tables or figures. Figures must not be embedded within the text and must be uploaded as separate files, and each table must be uploaded as a separate file. Figure legends must be brief and specific and appear on a separate manuscript page after the References section.
Review Article
Cover Letter
A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include the corresponding author’s affiliation and contact information, briefly explain the importance of the work and its suitability for the journal readership, and confirm that the material is original research, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
Abstract
An abstract is required. The abstract must be unstructured and must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be unstructured. No mandatory abstract headings are specified.
Manuscript
The main body text, excluding abstract, tables/figures, and references, must not exceed 5,000 words. Review Articles must include a Methods section with search criteria and selection criteria and must report the total number of articles identified and the total number selected for inclusion in the review. Keywords should not be provided, and any use of a large language model must be documented in the Methods section or another suitable part of the manuscript.
References
Review Articles may include a maximum of 100 references. References must follow the Vancouver format. In-text references must be numbered consecutively, references must be listed in numerical order of citation, and for works with more than six authors only the first six authors should be listed followed by et al.
Figures & Tables
Review Articles may include a maximum of 8 tables or figures. Figures must not be embedded within the text and must be uploaded as separate files, and each table must be uploaded separately. Figure legends must appear on a separate manuscript page after the References section, and tables must be editable.
Mini Review
