Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter should be provided with the submission. The cover letter should describe the significance of the work and, if applicable, declare any preprint version of the manuscript.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 175 words. The abstract must be a single-paragraph unstructured abstract.
Manuscript The paper should include Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Results, Discussion, Methods, Data availability, Author contributions, Disclosure and competing interest statement, Acknowledgements, and References, and the structured Methods must contain a Reagents and Tools Table followed by a Methods and Protocols section. The manuscript must include a mandatory author contributions section, a disclosure and competing interest statement, a Data availability section after the Methods, and AI use must be disclosed in the article with AI-assisted data collection or analysis documented in the Methods section.
References References are unlimited. In-text citations must use Harvard style and references must follow the EMBO Press reference guidelines. References must be listed alphabetically by first author and then chronologically, with up to 10 authors listed before using ‘et al.’.
Figures & Tables Research Articles usually include up to 10 main figures. The full manuscript text including figure legends, tables, and references must be submitted as a single DOCX or LaTeX file, while figures may be combined with the manuscript for initial submission and tables may be placed at the bottom of the manuscript or submitted separately. The Methods section must include a Reagents and Tools Table listing key reagents, experimental models, software, and relevant equipment with their sources and identifiers, and the completed table must be uploaded as a ‘Reagent Table’ file.
