Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must provide the corresponding author's affiliation and contact information, explain the importance of the work and its suitability for the journal's readership, confirm originality and that the work has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere, include a Competing Interests statement, and include prior reviewer comments if the manuscript was previously considered by another journal.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must be unstructured and no more than 200 words. The abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript The main text must not exceed 4,500 words, excluding the abstract, tables/figures, and references. The manuscript must include a Materials/Subjects and Methods section with enough detail and references to allow reproduction of experimental procedures. The manuscript must include an Author Contributions statement, a Competing Interests statement before the References section, documentation of any large language model use in the Methods section or a suitable alternative section, and a Data Availability Statement.
References The submission may include a maximum of 60 references. References must follow Vancouver format. References must be numbered in order of citation and listed in numerical order at the end of the paper, with all authors listed for works with up to six authors and only the first six followed by et al. for works with more than six authors.
Figures & Tables The submission may include a maximum of 8 tables or figures. Figures must be uploaded as separate files rather than embedded in the text, and each table must be uploaded separately. Tables must be editable and figure legends must appear on a separate manuscript page after the References section.

Review Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required and must include the corresponding author's affiliation and contact information, a brief explanation of the work's importance and fit for the journal's readership, confirmation that the material is original research, has not been previously published, is not under consideration elsewhere, and a Competing Interests statement. References Review Articles may include a maximum of 100 references. References must follow the Vancouver format. References must be cited in text as numbered citations starting at one and listed at the end in numerical order of citation, with up to six authors listed in full and more than six abbreviated after the first six with et al.
Figures & Tables Review Articles may include a maximum of 8 tables or figures. Figures must not be embedded within the text and must be uploaded as separate files, and each table must be uploaded separately. Composite figures containing more than three individual figures count as two figures, and tables must be editable.
