Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology (FIN) publishes comprehensive review articles, systematic reviews, opinion pieces, and meta-analyses in neuroendocrinology. Most reviews are invited, but the journal welcomes unsolicited reviews and meta-analyses, proposals for thematic special issues, and commentaries. Research areas include endocrine interactions in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disease, sex differences, stress systems, neuroendocrine influences across the lifespan, microbiota and immune interactions, neuropeptides, comparative and clinical neuroendocrinology, and neuroendocrine control of energy balance, glucose homeostasis, and metabolism.

Review Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript should be divided into clearly defined sections using headings, with acknowledgements in a separate section directly before the references. Submission must include 1 to 7 English keywords, 3 to 5 highlights submitted as a separate editable file, completion and upload of the declarations document, and an end-of-manuscript generative AI declaration section before the references if AI was used.
References References may be submitted in any consistent style or format, using author-date citations in the text. Reference lists must be arranged alphabetically and then chronologically if needed, include standard bibliographic details, and use letters after the year for multiple works by the same author in the same year.
Figures & Tables Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while tables must be submitted as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered in order of appearance, and provided with captions, and tables must include any notes below the table body.

Submission must include 1 to 7 keywords, 3 to 5 highlights submitted as a separate editable file, declaration information uploaded via the declarations tool, CRediT author contribution acknowledgement, and an AI-use declaration section before the references if generative AI was used.
References Text citations must use author-name-and-year style, and the reference list may be in any consistent submission style. References must include core bibliographic details, be arranged alphabetically and then chronologically if needed, use letters for same-author same-year items, and journal names must be abbreviated according to LTWA.
Figures & Tables Tables must be submitted as editable text, while figures and other graphical media must be uploaded as separate files and all tables and figures must be cited in the manuscript text. Tables must be numbered consecutively and include captions, and figures must be numbered in sequence and include captions with a brief title, description, and explanations of symbols and abbreviations.
