Infectious Microbes & Diseases accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Original Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for first submission.

Abstract Original Articles must include an abstract. The abstract must be unstructured and must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be unstructured.

Manuscript Original Articles must not exceed 4000 words of text. The main text must be ordered as Introduction, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and Materials and Methods, and the Discussion must include a paragraph summarizing the study limitations. The manuscript must include three to eight keywords, and if there are more than two authors it must include an author contributions section containing the statement "All authors read and approved the final manuscript."

References References must use American Medical Association style. References must be numbered in citation order, list no more than six authors or the first three followed by "et al." for seven or more authors, include article titles and DOIs, and use Index Medicus journal abbreviations.

Figures & Tables Tables may be placed after the References section in the main body file or uploaded separately, whereas figures must be uploaded separately and not embedded in the main body file. Each table must be numbered, titled, and cited in the text, and all figures must have numbered legends corresponding to the figures.

Review Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for first submission. The cover letter must explain why the submission is not a duplicate publication if possibly duplicate material exists.

Abstract An unstructured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.

Manuscript Main text should be approximately 5000 words. The main part must be presented as text with sub-headings, and manuscripts must contain the required elements in the exact order specified by the journal. The manuscript must include three to eight keywords and a Generative AI use statement if such tools were used, with the statement placed after the body text before the references or in the Materials and Methods section.

Figures & Tables Tables may be included after the References section in the main body document or uploaded separately, whereas figures must be uploaded separately and not embedded in the main body file. Each table and figure must be numbered and cited in the text, tables must have titles, and legends must be provided for all figures.

Manuscript Case Reports must not exceed 1500 words of text. Main text may be written with or without subheadings and should begin with a short background paragraph, present a concise patient history and current outcome, and include a discussion highlighting one or two main lessons from the case. The manuscript must include three to eight keywords, an author contributions section when there are more than two authors including the statement "All authors read and approved the final manuscript.", and a Generative AI use statement if applicable.

References References must use American Medical Association style. References must be numbered in citation order, list no more than six authors or the first three followed by "et al." for seven or more, include article titles, use Index Medicus journal abbreviations, and include a DOI for journal articles.

Figures & Tables Tables may be included after the References section in the main body document or uploaded separately, whereas figures must be uploaded separately and must not be embedded in the main body file.
