Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must concisely state the aim of the study, the significant and novel findings, how the findings relate to the current state of the field, and any other information pertinent to review, and it must disclose any writing or editing assistance.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured without subheadings or sections.
Manuscript Body text from Introduction to Discussion or Conclusions must not exceed 5,000 words. Manuscript must follow IMRAD format with Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion, although Results and Discussion may be combined if appropriate. The title page must include a 75-word maximum Novelty and Impact description, three to five keywords, an alphabetical list of abbreviations used, and the article category, and the manuscript must include conflict of interest and funding statements at the end of the paper.
References A maximum of 50 references is permitted. References must use American Medical Association (AMA) style. References must be listed in a separate section immediately after the text, numbered sequentially in the order cited, use NLM Catalog journal abbreviations, and include the names of all authors in the review version.
Figures & Tables A maximum of 6 tables and figures in total is permitted. Tables must be included at the end of the main document or submitted as separate files, and figure legends and tables must follow the body text. Figures and tables must be numbered with Arabic numerals, each must have a separate legend, and all figures and tables must be cited in the text.

Manuscript Letter must not exceed 1,000 words. Letter must report the title of the Letter, begin with "Dear Editor," use the title "Comments on <title of the original paper>" when referring to a published paper, use the title "Reply to: Comments on <title of the original paper>" for replies, and place the list of abbreviations, statements, full author list and affiliations, and corresponding author contact information at the end of the text. The manuscript must include three to five key words on the title page and conflict of interest and funding statements at the end of the paper or main text.
References No more than 10 references are permitted. References must be listed in American Medical Association (AMA) style. References must be numbered sequentially in the order cited in the text, listed in a separate section immediately following the text, use NLM Catalog journal abbreviations, and include the names of all authors in the review version.
